Actions you can take to build engagement
Communicate regularly
- Make communication open, clear, honest and timely. Be sure to explain the company strategy for the both the short and the long term. Convey messages in a way that employees will understand and can empathise with. Don't be afraid to "rally the troops!"
Make sure your senior management are visible
- Walk the floors, talk to people and listen to their thoughts and feelings. Ensure your senior managers reinforce corporate messages and have the skills to help people manage through change.
Support line managers
- These guys get the tough end of the deal and are the most influential on your employees. Ensure there is support for them in coping with uncertainty and emotional reactions to change. Help them to remain positive about the future and encourage their teams to pitch in.
Run a short diagnostic -
Identify what really matters to your employees at the moment. Then act on the results! Show them you are listening & responding to them.
